Four of us ate here for dinner our last night in town. The wing-dings were so good as an appetizer our husbands ordering them again for "dessert". The horseradish sauce that comes with the calamari was unique and delicious. My husband had fried oysters for dinner and was raving about them. My low-country boil was good, nothing to write home about, but good nonetheless. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. The beer and wine was priced well.

This place is amazing! We went two times for dinner and once for breakfast. The fried shrimp and the shrimp and grits were amazing! The breakfast was great with a great selection for everyone!

UNTIL THEY CAN IMPROVE THEIR SERVICE TIMES -- DON'T EAT HERE If I could give this place zero stars I would. I understand on Edisto Island, things move at a slow pace. Then there is Seacow Eatery, which redefines the meaning of slow island eating. We waited there for over an hour before our food even made it to the table. The kitchen was so slow. We honestly should have left to go down the street to Bi Lo, Subway, or spent the money for good food and service at Finns. The waitstaff knew there was a long wait, so they avoided us the entire time. Ill admit, for fried seafood, they did a OK job -- but it is hard to enjoy your meal when you have been sitting there for such a long time. Tips for eating here: When you arrive, ask the other tables to see how long they have been there. If they have been waiting longer than a half hour... leave and go someplace else. I left leaving no money for the waitstaff. Sorry, I know that is mean. If the back of the house isn't working right, why should I have to pay for service?

My boyfriend and I drive from Charleston all the time just to eat here! The shrimp is amazing! That's all we get, the seacow is amazing, the shrimp with pita bread and vegetables is delicious and the fried shrimp is fantastic as well! Their Cole slaw is really good too! Worth the drive for some really fresh shrimp!!

Yelp ratings led us into Seacow for lunch yesterday. This is a tiny eatery which is among the very few places on the island open in February. Parking could be a challenge in summer; the atmosphere is very casual and nothing special. The "special" comes in the food itself. We each ordered beer (bottled only) and the server brought the wrong one for my son; he said he would keep it and she did not charge us for it. Geoff had the Seacow sandwich (bagel with shrimp and ranch dressing) and I had the fried oysters (tummy). The food was as previously reviewed by others - very good! We kept hearing breakfast was their best meal so we returned this morning and again it was worth it. I had the fried eggs with grits, corned beef hash, and rye toast. I love the hash but it often is not very good - I would rate this one as a 4. My son had the Moo mania - he rated it highly.

Food was good. Wait time took awhile though. Sweet tea was amazing. It seems it took forever for us to get sat down though and when we finally did, it was super cramped.

Only place to go for breakfast on Edisto! Friendly staff, great atmosphere and the food was good! Wish they had more variety, but the omelets were delicious!

Fried seafood...wasn't sure if it was fresh or frozen because it was not remarkable...fries were just ok. People rave about this place, so will give another try.

We ate an early dinner at the Sea Cow and thoroughly enjoyed everything that came fried, but the grilled seafood items were all bland. We started with side salads, which were small but fine. My wife and I each ordered different seafood combo platters, so we had a varied sampling of their dishes. The fried oysters were terrific and the fried flounder was very good. The grilled shrimp and scallops were limp with little flavor, and the grilled oysters were small and also lacking any deep flavor. Sides were generally very good especially the coleslaw. The grits were a bit gummy but flavorful. If you eat here, stick to the fried dishes and you'll leave very happy. I would stay away from any of the grilled dishes. Service was excellent and friendly.

mobile review Ate here twice while at Edisto, first for lunch then for breakfast. Our lunch experience was horrendous, with a 45 min wait, slow slow slow service, a forgetful waitress who did not bring us napkins or crackers for our toddler after several requests. We eventually got the crackers ourself. Food came after nearly an hour after ordering. They definitely take advantage of being one of the few dining establishments on the island. We came back several days later to try again for breakfast. This time the service and wait was ok. We went early to avoid the rush. Everything was delicious and I was pleased until we were ASKED to vacate our table early due to "many patrons waiting on tables". I have NEVER been asked to rush out of a restaurant ever before. I didn't even finish my coffee and our plates had JUST been picked up by the busboy. So very rude.

Quaint atmosphere & delicious food! A family member recommended this restaurant for breakfast and it exceeded our expectations. The French toast was to die for! The staff were friendly and the service was prompt. The next time we return to the island we will definitely visit Seacow again!

Went with my brother in law and we were seated pretty quickly. I got the seacow and he got the reuben. Mine was good with plenty of shrimp on the sandwich so that I used a fork and knife rather than eating it as a sandwich. His reuben was light on the meat. Neither of us cared for the coleslaw. It wasn't bad just different than either of us cared for. The fries were only lightly battered which was a plus in my book and were good.

They happily handed us the breakfast menu after 11AM, and served us delicious coffee. Amazing service and overheard them talking the table next to ours out of visiting Botany Bay and instead visit the Learning Center. Would recommend to tourists visiting the island.

There is not much as far as good restaurants on the Island. This is a decent spot, but typical. A cute bungalow type building with a small dinning area inside. Outside is a nice outdoor patio that is partly screened in. A nice relaxing spot for a quiet meal, that is about it. A fairly typical menu, with seafood and a few sandwiches. Service is typically friendly, and on top of things. That is about it. Not much more to the place. We have been coming to Edisto for over 20 years, and this is a consistent staple. Always fun and filling.

Had breakfast here while on vacation. The grits were some of the best I've ever had. The country ham, not so much, it was too salty.

I really enjoyed dining on the screened in porch in the evening. Staff were friendly and hard working. Food was great. We opted for shrimp po'boys with excellent fries and a very tasty Cole slaw. Priced reasonably. The shrimp tasted very fresh. The Sea Cow is in our favorite list on Edisto.

I don't know what the fuss was about. My husband and I go in and no one greets us or says anything. So we're just standing there like idiots, then someone finally acknowledges us and we decide to sit in the half between inside/outside. I was sad because I wanted to have breakfast but they already stopped serving it. Their lunch menu was nothing special. I decided to be boring and get 'The Cow with bacon + cheese' and my husband got the Fried Oyster Po Boy. I liked the beer-batter fries and that's about it. The burger was just a regular burger. My husband loved his sandwich though. Overall, I think I'd rather go across the street to McConkey's.

Great food! Try the crab cake sliders! Yummmm! I go to Edisto every year, at least once, and I've never been disappointed with the Sea Cow! :)

After eating lots of fish & shrimp over the course of a few days I was very ready for some red meat, and the Cow burger at the Seacow Eatery eat the spot quite nicely. My girlfriend also enjoyed her fried flounder sandwich. It was the perfect place to grab a bite before hitting the beach. The service was kinda slow to get started, but once someone finally came over it was great. It was off season when we were there and it was a little early for lunch so there was only one other table in there when we arrived. As people came in it was easy to see who the regulars were by the way they were warmly greeted. It made me smile to see, and as a tourist I would never expect to get treated the same way. Try some pie! We split a slice of apple/raspberry that was pretty darn good.

FANTASTIC! I had the lowcountry boil and it was awesome, the fried flounder, calamari, and fried scallops were all awesome as well! Will make this a yearly stop when we visit Edisto!!

Food was good but service left something to be desired. Lady at check in/check out area was not friendly at all. She acted like we weren't even there. Never made eye contact. The servers seemed pretty scattered and for being such a small place you would think they would have it together. Only reason I gave 3 stars is because the food was good. Flounder was cooked well as were the shrimp.

Staying at Edisto for the week and had dinner there last night. My wife, daughter and I had fried seafood, which was outstanding. Equally good were the fries, squash casserole and field peas. So impressed that we had dinner there again as I wanted to try the shrimp and grits, which did not dissappoint. The pies are also very good desserts.

We had a late breakfast here this morning and Sea Cow did not disappoint. Our family of four each ordered a different entree: pancakes & sausage (huge & delicious), French toast (also a large portion & very good), an egg/ham/grits & biscuit platter (yum!), and bacon, egg & cheese biscuit (great!). Service was friendly and timely and the price was reasonable. We hope to return before we head home at the end of the week!

Lunch was delicious, breakfast... could be improved. I had a bbq sandwich for lunch with slaw and it was delicious; just what I have come to expect. In the meantime, we also did breakfast and I had scrambled eggs with a half-order of biscuits and gravy. The eggs were good but the gravy was more like bland paste rather than the delicious gravy they used to serve. The biscuit was light and lovely. This doesn't mean I won't be back... I certainly will but I won't be ordering the gravy on the biscuit.

Eat there and get it to go

Only made it here for breakfast, but after trying it once, we came back almost every day! The shrimp and grits was the big winner - super fresh shrimp (just off the boats!) cooked to perfection. Creamy, rich grits, not too salty... and the portion was huge! Could only get through half of it! Biscuits and gravy was a close second! And the traditional breakfasts (eggs and sides) were also great! Portion sizes are huge, and the prices are a bit higher. Its always packed! So be patient. Service is fast and friendly. Option to sit inside (in the air conditioning) or screened in porch. One of these days I really want to try both their lunch and dinner menus. Also the list of home-made pies is enough to make your mouth water! Highly recommend this as one of your stops during a stay at Edisto!

I love this place! The staff is super nice and their fries are amazing! I enjoy getting breakfast here (the potatoes is the one bleh thing about it) and sitting outside drinking a sweet tea and having a cow (burger) for lunch. The burger itself is pretty basic but the bun and toppings are quality and fresh and delicious...I'm a bit of a meat snob though. Haven't had anything on the menu I haven't liked, the Philly cheesesteak is really yum and the fried seafood is good and a large serving. We make sure we go here every time we come to the beach and have a couple of their hats and shirts to remind us when we are away. Always a wonderful experience.

Great experience. Good food. Great friendly service. Kids loved it. We ate on the patio. Wife had the low country and I ate the special. Everything drinks to desert was above average. The friendly staff and special touches such as frisbees for kids plates makes this a place you want to return to.

It's a family tradition to have breakfast at least once at the Seacow Eatery on each of our visits to Edisto Beach. This year was no exception, but this time I'm a yelper. I had the "Moo La La" french toast with a generous topping of crushed pecans and a side of link sausage. I couldn't name the elongated bread they used but it was perfect and had a subtle crunch to the outside. The links were very mild but not flavorless (I do prefer a stronger sage style personally). My wife had a ham/egg/cheese biscuit which she enjoyed. My daughter had the short stack pancakes and their darker color indicated a possibly whole wheat batter was used. I tried them and they were not mealy and had a good flavor. Drinks are a la carte, so my Diet Coke was served in a can with a cup of ice & lemon wedge. My wife had coffee and my daughter had water and the total was about $30. The inside is small and tables are packed in. You'll definitely hear you neighbor's conversation. The patio is about the same side as inside, with half of it picnic tables under umbrellas and the other half screened in. The staff were moderately friendly with a hint of detachment. Service was good and the place was clean. They also sell a large assortment of pies. Definitely a decent place at a decent price considering they've got a captive audience of tourists in a remote location.

My husband and I ordered and traded halves of the shrimp and oyster po'boys. Fresh, lightly breaded, generous portion, super delicious. Our kid loved that her dinner was served on a frisbee which she got to take home. It's a no frills, come-as-you-are-from-the-beach kind of place with dog friendly seating on the deck. We came back another night during our weeklong stay for dinner.

This hippie looking restaurant had a slightly under-whelming lunch menu, like really basic items and not all-day breakfast. Came here expecting something different so I had little hope then, but lunch was actually very good. The lunch orders in my group were: grilled cheese sandwhich with she-crab soup, ceasar salad with she-crab soup, grilled veggie pita melt, and fried flounder sandwhich. So let me tell you: the she-crab soup was a special and was so worth ordering. Meaty, creamy, and crabby, oh so good. The fries are really tasty and the flounder sandwhich which unfortunately was not what I ordered, was delicious and and so worth odering again, crispy and topped with a slice of fresh juicy heirloom tomato. The ceasar salad I WOULD NOT order again. I forgot to tell them to put the dressing on the side so of course it comes out completely soaked and the dressing is oil based and doesn't even taste like ceasar. It was so oily and drenched that the bits of lettuce were actually slimy. The order of she-crab and sharing of fries kept my mind off that.

The best part about this place was the leaving. We sat outside because this place is small and were seat fairly quickly. I agree with other yelpers about the detached staff. They definitely do not seem very interested in their job or life in general. Oddly enough I got that same feeling about service/food industry employees all over the island. So maybe I am just not a fan of folks in the low country? Anyway after ordering, the wait began, and didn't end for quite a long time. So long in fact the busboy just took up some of our silverware for no apparent reason. Maybe he thought that we were finished, but once again he barely mumbled any words as he pilfered our forks and knives. Really Seacow, you have a menu of mostly fried things and breakfast foods. How long can french fries take? I know 2 minutes on the fry o later that I slaved over in high school. Food was average. I was very disappointed because we went there solely on the previous high reviews. I think all of the other reviews are riding a beachy high or drug high for loving the place so much. There are not many choices on edisto and hopefully some of the others will provide better food and experience. I got the Mahi that was cooked well but I ordered blackened which it was not blackened. Due to the long wait. There was no way I was going to send it back. So instead I will vent my frustration in the review and be satisfied that maybe I can save one person(s) time and money. I will give only one positive on this review, the grits were good.

Well every year we come to the beach we give this restaurant "ANOTHER" chance and we are always flabbergasted at the amount of people eating here. This year the lady (might even be the owner or joint owner) showed us to our table and then just abandoned us there without any menus or asking if we wanted any drinks. Eventually we decided to get some menus from near the register ourselves. Once we had menu's the waitress came and took our order. It was 40 minutes before we got our food. The food was actually good but the service is just pathetic. I think the reason why you would frequent this restaurant is because you have exhausted the other restaurants on Edisto. The pricing is up there with the others (expensive !!) but as described here the service is non existent. If they didn't have such a captive audience on the Island this restaurant definitely wouldn't survive.

Note: This review is based on a breakfast dining experience. Depending on the day of the week or the season, the Seacow Eatery may be one of the only options for breakfast out. Given the lack of competition, you might expect mediocre food. Fortunately, this is not the case. Although the food is pricey (a trend that cannot be escaped in Edisto Island), the portions were generous, and the taste of all the items sampled by my party of four was spot-on. The main menu is centered around egg (fried or scrambled) or omelet platters. Both platter options come with a choice of grits or home fries, and toast or a biscuit. The scrambled eggs were fluffy, not greasy, and well seasoned. The home fries were also well-seasoned, but super-crisp, almost overlooked. The biscuits were small and dense. Our party was split as to whether this was a good thing or not. A highlight of the platters were the grits. Although well-textured, they were creamy, seasoned to perfection, and were the first thing to disappear off the plates of the two party members that ordered them. Another stellar breakfast offering were the omelets. One can order them with all the traditional additions, such as sausage/ham, onions, mushrooms, peppers, spinach, tomatoes, etc. Grilled shrimp is also an option, which was a nice choice for an island omelette. For those wanting the ultimate omelet, the John's omelet is the way to go. This five-egg omelet comes with all the additives (including the shrimp), and this monster culinary creation is so massive that its ends flop over the edges of an oblong plate. One of these was ordered for two people to share, and still about half was left when both were done. The meats were savory, the veggie fillings were fresh and crisp, and the shrimp had a slightly spicy seasoning that was perfection. At over $13, this omelet is not cheap, but the portion size and flavor made it one of the better values. A final food highlight that our party sampled was the pancakes. They can be ordered single a la carte, or in stacks of two or three. The menu cautions that these pancakes are big, and this is not hyperbole! Our child ordered a single cake, and it was literally the diameter of a standard dinner plate. The thickness was uniform, the exterior crisp, and the inside was fluffy and seasoned throughout with cinnamon. The cake had a slight dusting of powdered sugar, and all at the table agreed that it was delicious even without adding butter or syrup. The ambiance is similar to what you'll experience in most other restaurants in the area. A cramped, slightly loud internal dining room, but a nice outdoor area with picnic tables. If the weather is nice, definitely opt for the outdoor seating. The service was as expected, prompt and friendly, and there were absolutely no issues with it. Overall, the Seacow works well within the confines of its environment. Some have and will comment that the menu is pricey, and overall I'd tend to agree. The portions, however, are not skimpy. Odds are, you'll walk away from the table poorer, but full and satisfied for hours. One particular irritating thing to note, however, is that an online menu is not correct. You can view the Seacow menus from their website, although this obviously hasn't been updated in a while. As of this writing, the prices on the online breakfast menu are one to four dollars less than you'll actually pay. Most guests these days plan their dining using tablets and smartphones, so having erroneous pricing from an official source out there is simply not cool. Management should fix this, or if they cannot keep up, pull the electronic menus.

I was excited about this place when we walked in. The location is right next to our house and the menu is fun. It seems like this place has good days and bad days judging the reviews. The Good: Friendly staff that seems to think their food is amazing. The Bad: Everything we at that day tasted fishy. Which I wouldn't have minded if we had ordered anything with fish in it. I was so excited about the pie I ordered a slide and two to go. The pie was not good, no offense to Martha. I ordered key lime and there was a smokiness to the key lime and the crust was extremely soggy. In fact, all the pies' crusts were so soggy it looked like they had been saturated in water. Also, the slices are pricey, around 6.00 after tax. The place is also tiny.

No trip to Edisto is complete without a trip or two to the SeaCow. Always good food breakfast or lunch. Try the shrimp and grits, omelets or a burger. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu.

This was the only place we could find for breakfast this past week on Edisto. It was a little pricey but not too expensive. While the food was delicious, there were issues both times we went. The first time we sat on the screen porch where it seemed the waitresses tried to slam the door as hard as they could, thus jarring my friend's seat every time. By the time we received our food, it was cold. They had also mixed up the breakfast meats but since it was my husband and our aunt and uncle, we just switched them up. The second time we decided to eat inside. Our food was much warmer this time but this time they left out my uncle's toast and gave me sausage instead of bacon, AGAIN. I really liked the home fries but felt that they could have been cooked longer. An OK place but for the price, I think I'll just keep making breakfast at the condo!

Great local flounder, grits, and crabcakes. Don't go if you are in a hurry. Wait staff not friendly. Have not tried breakfast there.

This place is awseome! The fried shrimp and crab cakes are extremely fresh. The food takes some time to come out but I think thats because they only have cook in the kitchen and everything is made to order. I have to agree with some of the reviews on the wait staff. We ate there twice over the 2013 Memorial Day weekend. Martha (i think that was her name) was great!. However, on Friday night some dude waited on us. He was devoid of emotion and had limited command of the english language. Have no idea where they dug him up but he sucked as a waiter. But will definately go back for the food.

We have been coming to the SeaCOW Eatery for years. On our most recent trip, we were sad to see what they have become. We are usually fixtures every morning for breakfast when we vacation on Edisto (which is 2-4 times a year), so our first morning over, we arrived around 8:30 and were seated at the last table inside. I ordered an omelet and the hubs ordered eggs over medium with home fries. When our order arrived, they brought both of us omelets. Confused, we sent his back and the eggs came back over hard. Bacon was so greasy and potatoes were so hard you couldn't eat them. When we got the ticket, I noticed the waitress actually wrote down my husband's order as an omelet, so she clearly wasn't even paying attention to our order. When I asked the owner (cashier) to make sure the ticket reflected the proper order, all she said to me was "Two eggs are two eggs! It's the same price!" Thinking it was a fluke, we went back the next day. Note to kitchen staff: when you make eggs over medium and then pour hot grits all over the top - they keep cooking! Hello! At least on the last visit (and I do mean last), they removed the eggs from the ticket. Waitstaff is bordering on rude and I don't know what has happened to this place, but they all seem just put out by having you walk in the door. We saved ourselves the pain and bought our own breakfast provisions at Bi-Lo and had a much cheaper and properly prepared breakfast back at the beach house for the remainder of our stay. Save yourselves the effort AND money until they can improve their service, food and attitudes.

Food was great as usual. Would have been four stars except for service. Slow, forgot water, no check backs etc. Will definitely go again, just want a little better service. We were there for breakfast on August 3, 2013.

Very good lunch!! Would have given them 5 stars but had to send coffee back because it was old. Moo Cobb salad was delicious! Hubby had fish sandwich and enjoyed that. Definitely will try again on our next visit to Edisto.

This place is great, and the owners are lovely people too, and very supportive of the community. Small. low-key, good food, service is OK., but they're always busy. Try the Moo Cob Salad ( I get it with shrimp and no bacon). It's always delicious and the staff doesn't mind my made up menu item. I have seen others order it after seeing my version- and loved it!

I like to call my self a realistic foodie. I think that to understand the quality of a restaurant you have to take into consideration the surrounding environment. Past experience and comparing food items to those at other restaurants will always be part of my reviews but what I will try to do is review a place based on my whole experience past and present at the restaurant and review it in the context of its environment ie i don't expect filet mignon a roadside burger joint but I do expect a good burger at a decent price. The Sea Cow: First thing you must know about this place is that it is small in size but big on portions and flavor. If you have a group of 4 or more consider eating breakfast before the morning rush on the weekends, and for lunch aim for a late lunch/early dinner. As with any place on the island, to go or call and pick up will always save you time (after all you are at the beach, enjoy your meal by the water or on your porch). The wait staff and cooks have been working here for a long time and are very nice, but if you're looking for some specialized attention during a huge meal time rush it won't happen, the way to get the best service is to be patient and be ready to order (if they aren't slammed they will take great care of you and would love to get to know you). This place is a greasy spoon (though the food isn't greasy). Because I have been to this place a lot I will stick to my favorites or some good choices. Breakfast: Breakfast normally ends at around 10am. If you get on the wait list or are seated before 10 the majority of time they will still let you order breakfast and not lunch. Come ready to eat the portion sizes are hearty. To start any variation of the pancakes are great, they are fluffy and full of flavor as well as no short of toppings that come with each, each cake is about the size of the place they come on; flavors include chocolate chip, pecan, and classic buttermilk (I recommend the chocolate or pecan). If your looking for something more traditional the omelets are a good choice, 3 eggs with a decent choice of additions (not a lot of choices but enough to enhance the flavor), I would go with spinach. The meal includes two sides (I'll get to those soon). For a more hefty meal go for the biscuit and gravy, 3 split biscuits about the size of a mason jar lid in diameter, cream sausage gravy with pepper flake (gives it a nice kick), with large chunks of sausage to add more bulk to the meal. Though your on the island and sea food is a must the shrimp and eggs is good but the cow does better seafood for other meals, or some other places will have better shrimp items for breakfast. Sides: grits..... That's it, you can get potatoes to fruit and they're good but when you come to the cow you get grits and you realize that that you will be coming back to Edisto as often as you can. Lunch/Dinner: the difference between lunch and dinner isn't much, I will do cow dinner if I don't want anything too special when the waterfront is lined up down the street. But lunch and dinner are good here too. If its a hot day on the beach the cow has some great items that will either put you into a food comma or help cool you off. Salads are great here, very large portions and lot of toppings pending on what type you order; The moo cob is the best of the lettuce style, the Shrimp salad is great pretty good size portion and but shrimp this is why you come to the water for this type of shrimp salad. If your in the mood for more traditional type of fair I would go with the burger or chicken tenders. Next time I go I plan on trying the fried fish or grilled chicken sandwiches they looked great coming out the window last time I was there (yesterday). Sides: fries.... Again you probably get some other items but these fries rival any place you've been to on or off the island. Stick with sweet tea, but they are a coke place...sorry Pepsi. desert: They have cookies that would make cookie monster going nuts for, they go quick though get them early and often. Pie!!!! I know, I have yet have met Ms. Martha but these are the best pies on the island, on a daily basis they will have 8 different types to choose. Don't miss the opportunity to get a slice of whatever type fits your fancy. In conclusion this pace won't be the best you've ever been to, but it is a great place for a small island and is a place you should visit at least for one meal while your on the island. 4 starts for the real world, 5 stars for the island.

We were disappointed with our lunch experience at the Sea Cow. I had a Moo with Cheese (cheeseburger) and my boyfriend had a flounder sandwich. We've pretty much run the gamut of the island and have gotten similar fare at the other places we'd tried, and the Sea Cow's food was at the low end of mediocre. We did manage to snag the last indoor table, but the place does show lots of wear and tear. Perhaps the breakfasts are better, but I'm not really interested in going back to find out.

We went with a party of five plus two babies, and had a great fried meal. It was definitely a very casual place, but we left with our craving for seafood fulfilled. Between us, we got the fried shrimp, the seafood platter, and the crab cakes. Next time, our whole party would get the fried shrimp even though we liked the other foods - it was absolutely delicious, and worth the trip. All of the meals were $15-20, which I guess is to be expected at a beach destination. Don't go for a grilled meal or healthy salad - just get the fried shrimp and you'll have no regrets. Another customer told us that breakfast was out of this world and desserts are awesome too, but so far, we've been too full to confirm either of those statements. :)

We received recommendation after recommendation for the Sea Cow Eatery, and we were not let down! It has a small yet great atmosphere serving up delectable food! This is our first time to Edisto and this dinner was the highlight of the trip after underwhelming and downright horrible meals elsewhere. At the Sea Cow we had one of the combo dinners... Grilled. Expertly cooked and tasty scallops, flounder and shrimp! If you're a coleslaw fan, make sure you try some! And lastly, their desserts. Apparently this is one of their secrets. My advice... Order your dessert first thing because they get gone fast!

I am a professional chef and caterer and I was very impressed with the restaurant. It's southern food, nothing fancy but cooked fresh and done right. I'm surprised to read some of the other negative reviews and maybe they went on an off day. I am very picky when it comes to food and all I can it was amazing food, service and atmosphere!

We ate there every night while visiting Edisto Island,SC. They give you a lot of food and it was all great. Good price too. Classic southern seafood!

We had breakfast here a couple of times while we were staying on the island, and it was great. Service was a little slow and a little disinterested, but I don't know, service wasn't fantastic anywhere on the island so maybe it's just "island time." Menu is pretty basic, but everything was prepared well and prices are decent. We came back and got a few slices of pie to go one day, as they always seem to have a great variety and they look amazing. The pecan pie was a bit disappointing, but everything else we tried was great. If the weather is nice, the outside seating is a nice bonus. We'll definitely go back for breakfast next time we're here.

Came here for lunch and was very happy with our experience here. Initially our waitress seemed a bit "standoffish and offputting" (that's a bit of a shoutout to someone... but it's also true), she warmed up (seemingly) the longer we stayed. I had a bbq sandwich, which came smothered in sauce... very good sauce. We asked about the bbq from a guy who looked like a cook and/or the owner. He sat down at our table and told us about how they had a shindig for the Chamber of Commerce of Edisto Beach. He told some woman that he spent all day preparing the BBQ. Then he felt guilty and told the truth: the bbq comes from North Carolina. So, yep, I came to SC to have NC bbq. It still was excellent BBQ. The Hoff had a chicken fried steak, the special of the day, which he liked, but I think he coveted my bbq sandwich, so I shared it. I'm nice like that. ;) We didn't have dessert there although I saw they had homemade pies... yummmmm....

Good food at a decent price! Nothing fancy! Fries and shrimp were great! Soups are well-seasoned and hot! Staff was attentive! We visit regularly when on Edisto!

Food is amazing! Shrimp n grits were perfect and my lovers scallops were also incredible. Make sure to try the sweet tea and key lime pie for desert. My favorite place in Edisto to eat.

I've been visiting Edisto for years. I love this little island and everything about it! The Seacow is a definite must-stop place. The food is nothing fancy but it is really good and for the price it is fair.

Im only giving two stars for their homemade approach, and rekaxed breakfast digs. Unfortunately our waitress cared more about how her apron flattered her hips than making us comfortable. And the homemade food tasted like it was homemade by a stoned preteen.

We've been here on two trips to Edisto and will be back. Easily our (family of 6) favorite place on the island. I loved the shrimp and grits last time and really enjoyed the crab cakes. My wife was really happy with the teriyaki chicken--very tender. Good burgers, Philly cheesesteak and honey mustard to boot. Service is sub-par, but this is Edisto.

Great breakfast with very reasonable prices. Good coffee too. Went back for dinner the next night. Had another great experience...the food was really good! Highly recommend.

This is the second time we went to this place. The first time, we were just the two of us, but this time we brought our dog. This place is so dog friendly! All the servers stopped to pet our dog, they brought her water and gave her a little treat. Both times we stopped here for brunch, and it was amazing! They usually have a wait on weekends, but there's a neat little surf shop that you can browse at, and when it's your turn they come in there and call you if they can't find you outside. For my breakfast, I ordered the homemade pancakes with pecans. They were delicious! My husband ordered the Moo Mania which was amazing too! The servers made sure our glasses and coffee were full.

My family has been coming here for a looooong time, and I look forward to eating here every year we come. The menus are different for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner, so you can try your hand at Sea Cow every time of the day and probably won't get sick of it. Everything that I have had is delicious and plenty of food for the price that you pay. All around great experience with really friendly workers! - If you do come during peak meal times just be aware that you could wait for up to an hour, so you may want to send a willing family member to go ahead of your group to get on the wait list -

Not bad for dinner. Everything is fried. They don't serve beer/wine on Sundays. Kids pizza served in a Frisbee, crust was lousy., but kids ate to get to the Frisbee. Will go back to try breakfast. Fresh pies were nice.

We always hit the Seacow on our way home and it never disappoints. I can help but ordering the Moo Mania every time too; home fried potatoes, scrambled eggs, mushrooms, onions, sausage gravy and a biscuit, what a great meal to start a road trip. Service is always very quick and they are always busy in the morning, but we only had a short wait. There are also a couple of shops close by in case you need a last minute souvenir for someone.

Breakfast at a small beach town is one of the best things you can do in the morning. Seacow is a small restaurant but there are seatings on the patio and around the back are picnic tables. There's going to be a short wait but there are shops to browse and kill time. Parking is tight and on gravel. The food is pretty decent. I had two eggs over medium with a side of buttered grits and grilled shrimps. I was expecting large tiger shrimps for some reason. Then again this is just breakfast. It was the little pink shrimps. Still tasty though. The coffee was very weak. A huge plus was the food came out fast.

We hit the Seacow a couple of times a week when we're on Edisto. The fried shrimp poboy if delightful.

Had breakfast outside with a nice breeze. Moo-Mania, which was a layer hash browns, with scrambled eggs, sautéed mushroom and onions and smothered with white sausage gravy. My friend had 2 eggs over medium, one yoke was broken, can't be perfect all the time. Side bacon which was rather saltier than normal, and hash browns were delicious. A side of grits, and I must say those grits were delectable! I would recommend this place!

My favorite restaurant on the island! Went here with my family. There was a ton of us and they were still very hospitable and got our food out quickly considering there was 20 of us. It is a small place and has a great environment. The flounder was great we loved the burger and shrimp as well. Everything was great!

Quaint little place with great breakfast! This place is a local favorite and for good reason. They serve huge portions and everything was fantastic. The grits were super creamy and seasoned perfectly. The pancakes were nice and fluffy with an almost funnel cake flavor. We used just a smidge of jelly and they were fabulous. The sausage patties were tasty and didn't look like hockey pucks. The seating is a bit tight and you'd better get there early....they open at 7am and by 7:45 there is a pretty strong crowd gathering outside. They offer lunch and dinner but we didn't try any of that. Make sure to visit this local establishment while you're visiting Edisto. If you don't, you've done yourself a huge disservice.

The food is good, but you need to serve some ice cream! Being at the beach plus having the word cow in the name of the restaurant make it seem like it'd serve dessert but the server said you can only get ice cream with a pie. Weird.

Came here for Sunday brunch with a party of 6. Had to wait about 20 minutes for a table which is understandable. The sad thing was was our waitress. I don't know what was wrong with her but we had to repeat our drinks orders 3 times and she just seemed out of it! We had to wait at 10 minutes to get our drinks back and then waited another hour for our food which was just okay. I got the omelet which I'm really not sure why I got it because in my opinion omelets never have any really good taste/flavor its just meh.... And to top off our crazy waitress she thought it was appropriate to fix her hair in front of all the customers. WTF

Our wait for a table 30 min. Food wait 45 min. Annoyed bc there were only 2 tables waiting on food. Making a 1 yr old understand. ...not pretty. Food wise it was ok...

Edisto Island doesn't have many breakfast options to begin with, but that's not why you come to here. We took a chance on the Seacow on a Sunday morning. My wife and I both ordered omelette's with grits, toast/biscuit and coffee. The reason for the one star is because: (1) overpriced for quality of food. Omelette's came out warmish, grits were okay/typical, bacon was nice and crisp in my omelette (a bright spot in the meal), but the food just doesn't justify the price. If we would've paid $4-5 less on the check, I would say that would be about the right price for the food. (2) the cheese in the omelet wavered somewhere between melted and not --chewy really; (3) service was pretty inconsistent. We saw our waiter maybe twice, in fact I had to go and find our waiter to get the check; (4) the coffee was just plain terrible. If you like coffee, don't order it here. Other thoughts: (1) portions were large-ish; (2) if you do decide on the Seacow, get there before 8:45am to beat the crowd for breakfast. Again, not too many breakfast spots on the island, I think 2, maybe 3.

Any review for Edisto Beach much acknowledge that the choices are thin...very thin. That being said the sea cow should rank one or two. Reasonable food, priced a little high, but again, choices are thin. You will need to eat there more than once if you are staying for a week. Other stops will be disappointing to say the least. The other better choice is McConkey's jungle shack.

Ate here while on vacation. Atmosphere is very simple and inviting, perfect for the area and coming from the beach. My wife order the seafood combo platter and I ordered the shrimp and grits, and the oyster po' boy with fries and collard greens (yes 2 entrees, I couldn't help it. Everything was outstanding! The grits were so creamy and the shrimp so flavorful that when topped with the gravy it becomes an addiction! The oysters were fried to perfection and the sandwich was great. I never had collard greens and am not a vegetable person but these were incredible. My wife's scallops were perfect and both. That and the shrimp show how seafood should taste. If you have a choice in sides get the squash casserole too. On top of the food everyone was so friendly and our server Benjamin was incredible. Friendly, personable, and on the ball. He could make you laugh through a bad meal but in this case he was a bonus to a great place!

Always a wait, but for good reason. The food is delicious. Maybe the best on the beach. Yeast rolls are incredible.

Sea Cow is the place to go for breakfast on the island. It's a place the locals go to on a regular basis. Biscuits & gravy and omelettes are great. We ate dinner there for the first time tonight in all of years of coming to Edisto. Dinner was good. I just got a burger but it was really tasty. Fries are beer battered and have a touch of sweetness to them. My wife got the low country boil very pleased with it except sausage was spicy. My father-in-law got the blackened tuna and was pleased with it. They have homemade pies made by one of the women there and they're delicious. I had the peanut butter silk slice & my wife had the butterscotch pecan. Definitely made from scratch and yummy.

The place is lovely but the food is average. We had lunch there and all the choices were limited to fried food. The waiter was nice though and allow my friend to have a blackened vs fried fish in her sandwich. I had a spinach salad with shrimp, but didn't want to have a bagel with it, so asked for instead of bagel have more spinach; it didn't look as any more spinach was added. If you would like to have the meal outside the place is suitable.

Breakfast crowd was a mix of locals and vacationers like us. Plenty of crispy bacon included on the Bacon Egg and Cheese Biscuit! Biscuit was nice and salty and held together thru the last bite. Coffee was great. Service came with a smile - quick delivery on the order. No sweet breakfast items like muffins or cinnamon rolls, and surprisingly no local jellies? Just little packets.

We went for breakfast and enjoyed it. It may be the only place on the island for breakfast (I don't know but got that impression) and it was crowded, meaning there was a pretty long wait for our food to come out. But we didn't mind. Great atmosphere. The food was delicious and the waitress was quick to keep our coffee cups filled. The wait staff wasn't overly friendly but maybe they were just so busy that they were distracted. I'd go back.

Great little breakfast joint and convenient location for visitors! I had an omelet with grilled shrimp and it was very tasty. Service was fast despite pretty high customer traffic. Probably not the best place for a large party due to the small size of the place.

Always love this place. Small kitchen so you have to wait for the last breakfast orders to have lunch. Great food and you can eat outside with your puppy.
